Glucomannan
THIS ONE CAN REALLY help you feel full for a long time,
even eating virtually nothing at all!
Glucomannan
is a fiber obtained primarily from
the roots of the konjac plant
(see image above). It can absorb up to 200 times its weight in water, and has the highest viscosity ("thickness"…water is
“thin”—honey is “thick”) of any known dietary fiber.
Because
glucomannan is so filling (yet with virtually no calories) and slows digestion dramatically, it is one of the
most effective appetite suppressants used today—often appearing in the “top three” or “top five” lists of such
suppressants. Many people consider glucomannan to be their “go to”
choice for an appetite suppressant.
Research
(studies too numerous to cite, but easily available with an online search) shows that glucomannan has all these
beneficial effects:
· Suppresses appetite
· Creates marked feelings of
satiation
· Slows digestion: delays emptying of
stomach
· Relieves constipation
· Lowers blood cholesterol
· Lowers blood sugar
A
warning
For all
these great benefits, it is vital that anyone taking glucomannan do so only with plenty of water. Most glucomannan, whether in powder or capsule
form, comes with a suggested ratio of glucomannan to water. Without enough water, digestion may not just slow,
but nearly stop! No one wants that problem!
But if
used as directed—typically a few capsules with a glass of water a half hour or so before meals—glucomannan can
be a powerful part of your effort to get your hunger under control.
